Tested on her?

We take women's health seriously.

Supplements, beauty products and hair treatments sold to women, checked against the research. With one extra question every time: was it ever studied on women?

Why this exists

Women were left out of the research. It shows.

8 of 10prescription drugs pulled from the US market from 1997 to 2000 had greater health risks for women.GAO, 2001
76 of 86FDA-approved drugs reached higher blood levels in women. For 96% of those, women had more side effects.Zucker & Prendergast, 2020
650×the recommended daily biotin can be in hair, skin and nail supplements. The FDA warns it can break lab tests.FDA, 2017
How we check

Three questions, asked every time

Safety CheckCan this hurt me, and how much?Confirmed risk, possible risk, low concern, or a scare that isn't supported. In the regulator's or the study's own words.
Tested on Her?Does it work, and was it studied on women? Our A to Myth grade, plus who was actually in the study.

How we treat this section

  • We grade the claim, never the woman. No before-and-after bodies, no weight-loss talk.
  • When a scare turns out small, we say so just as loudly as when it's real.
  • Pregnant, breastfeeding or trying? We'll always point you to your OB or midwife.
  • Posts about tweens and teens are written for parents and older sisters.
  • No brand pays us. No affiliate links. Every check names its source.
